"Hear the lonesome whistle blow" It just
sends chill down your back". Scott Young
the music came from Buck Owens and Johnny Cash. Smelly

Keokuk, Iowa. Bass player Jill Olsen comes from near by
Ottumwa. Electric guitar player Michael Mont

acoustic guitar called Ohio home. Drummer Les James grew
up in Oklahoma. Steve Cornell the steel guitar player
comes from New York. Each moved to the west coast
for a different reason. Smelly and Scott found themselves
in San Francisco and started to play in various
bands. Each band member was playing in a number of
other bands but it wasn't necessary the type of music they
wanted to play. Which was country, honky tonk,
western. When their respective bands broke up they
knew it was time to form a country band. "Me and
Smelly were going to do a duet and I was thinking
"Let's have a city western band" explains Scott.
So I wrote a bunch of songs and we booked our first gig.
It was just the two of us. They met Steve Cornell the
steel player asked if he could play with them we said
sure. Cornell knew Jill Olsen and said it would be great
if she joined. Then Red Meat was formed. That was
back in 1993 since then they have played
shows and wowed audience ever since they have 2
successful albums and a 3rd on the way, their fan
base is growing at a rapid pace. So way not surf on over
